Intuition and Reason

(The following is excerpted from Dr. Husfelt’s forthcoming book The Greatest Lie Ever Told - a Manifesto for a Religious Revolution and a New Consciousness)

The best tools available to us to determine our truth are intuition and reason (as well as common sense). Truth resulting from intuition and reasoning is not new knowledge. In fact, it dates as far back as the Greek Mystery Schools and Greek Mythology where intuition and reason were the two torches that the Goddess Ceres carried as she wandered the world searching for her abducted daughter—Persephone.

In figurative terms, intuition may be viewed as centered in the heart and reason as originating in the mind. In metaphysical teachings, the sun symbolizes our hearts and the moon our minds. The moon has no intrinsic light of it’s own but relies on the sun for its illumination and most importantly, its reflection. With this being true and considering that light is the most common symbol for knowledge; solar light (the heart) represents direct knowledge, which may be termed ‘heart knowledge’ while lunar light (the mind) corresponds to reflective knowledge. Our hearts know intuitively divine truth while our minds can only find reason through discursive knowledge and cannot function properly except through the guidance of the higher intellect of our hearts. In other words our heart and our mind must work together to determine truth.

Always keep in mind that truth is very personal. My truth may very well not be your truth. It is up to each individual to determine their own truth. But personal truth based on a ‘book,’ and not on one’s own heart and mind, is the height of folly.

Of course, following a ’book’ is easier than listening to our own heart and mind when circumstances are such that many times our past woundings prevent us from trusting ourselves—doubt is ever present. And thus, in our fast-paced stressful life, the ‘book’ is an easy alternative to our other option—seeking truth within ourselves.
